Big Bad Buggy

Epic. If new Asuga XLR from Team Corally should be described with one word, it would be that one. While it's the first big RC release of 2023, one thing in Asuga XLR makes me very happy - it is that is a traditional, good old Off-Road Buggy by its design!

This means that it is not another beyond-than-extreme bashermonstertruggytruck that should survive from nuclear war combined with asteroid attack. No, it is "just" a buggy. But what a buggy it is!

This week we smash Team Corally Asuga XLR in the table and crack it open. We also check out what type of electronics you should choose for Asuga Roller Version.

Asuga is available both RTR and Roller Version without electronics. And red. And Green. And Blue!

Scale? Large.

There has been some questions about the scale of this stunning new buggy. It is true that for reasons unknown Team Corally does not mention the official scale of the car. This has caused a little confusion (maybe even intentional?) when people say that it's just a new facelift for their earlier 1:8 comp buggies like Python or Radix. 

This is not true at all - Asuga XLR is definitely way bigger than any regular eight scale truck. It is also way smaller than true large scale cars like Baja 5B or Traxxas XRT what is not actually a bad thing at all. You can still take Asuga to your local 1:8 track and it should be welcome there!

But what is the scale? I would like to ask why is it so important? It is a - large scale Off-Road Buggy! For those who respect numbers let's just say that it is somewhere between 1:6 and half to 1:7 point zero. 

Officially Team Corally underlines that it is 15% larger than regular 1:8 cars. In scale like this, it is actually quite a lot!

Always Better

As you may know, Team Corally has a long and victorious history in competition level radio control sport. For Asuga XLR they claim that it is "precision-engineered to satisfy its owners with the fastest, most durable, and best-handling RC buggy ever produced." True or not the time will tell but there are some facts that need to be said.

Making a car longer and wider will make it more stable. This is just physics bro! Team Corally knows how to make car handle and response well. They are just awesome to blast around and steering is very predictive.

Some new features of Asuga XLR to mention are (but not limited to!)

• New, Tuned Aluminum Shock Absorbers with 4mm HD pistons and HD Shock Ball Ends
• Hybird Center Brace System to keep the chassis sturdy
• Mad thick Extreme Front Chassis Brace and Heavy Duty Skid Plates in Front and Rear
• Heavy Duty Composite Suspension Arms and Steering Blocks
• Front Upper Arm Aero kit - Upper arms have kind of wings!
• Spring Steel Outdrives All-Around
• Low Profile Rebel XMS Tires

Back to the Flow! "Aero Kit" is preinstalled in Asuga XLR upper front arms. 

Faster Than You See

Ready-to-Rumble version of Asuga is packed with top level RC electronics. It is not a secret that Corally is using Hobbywing as their "Royal warrant of appointment". If you are not familiar with the topic, let's just say that brushless powerline of Asuga should not bust the smoke out after first few runs. 

Quality costs and when you look at the price tag you can also be safe to know that electronics are known to be good. 

Included electronics are 185 amperes (max 850A) pushing Torox 185 ESC that is more than ready for 6S power, 2050kv brushless Kuron 825 Motor, 25kg beefing Varioprop CRHV-7225 servo and ergonomic Varioprop CT2R 2.4GHz radio system. Batteries or charger are not included.

Splash-proof Asuga XLR can be taken to any element. Except fire?

Rollers gonna Roll'

More experienced hobbyists and racers have shown their satisfaction to the fact that Asuga XLR is available also as a roller chassis version. This means that you can get a fully built and otherwise complete truck but there are no any electronics included.

Corally did the same with famous Kronos 6S XLR and guess what - they have been selling better than the earlier versions that come with everything included! Many folks like to put their own spice in their racers and maybe make it go even faster with something that barely fits! 

Our Hard Boiled Electronics and Warranty Team recommends following alternatives for Asuga XLR Roller Chassis version. (otherwise just go with the ones above - they are a safe bet!)

Why U no Monster?!

Yes, it is a buggy! I really appreciate the decision that Team Corally made here to keep Asuga as a classic Off-Road Buggy. This platform is simply the best when it comes to best possible handling and performing of RC cars. It is just evolution and laws of physics that take us here. 

While monster trucks - and who knows what will the next XL6S -series car from Team Corally be like - are cool and big they are often too big for serious racing. Too high, too clumsy for anything else than bashing and stunt drives. Being a buggy.. it's just right!

Asuga XLR takes us back to good old days of RC but is also updated with modern day solutions and materials. Maybe it is a buggy from the future that we all been waiting for! Just to see standing and being ready for some serious racing makes me feel good.

RC Cars like Asuga XLR reminds us that there is still hope and future in OG radio controlled, classic Off-Road Buggy Racing!
