Best 2WD Buggies Today?

Hello friends and enemies this is Heikki from EuroRC! We've had busy times here at EuroRC warehouse as all the new 2021 trucks are filling the new shiny shelves in our new shiny expanded warehouse. Besides just RC we have been selecting some more general and hobby-wise items like crafting tools and other neat stuff to help you being creative!

Buggin buggies

Few weeks back I challenged everyone to pop their hobby bubble and try something new! How are those bubbles poppin? I want to learn how to race in a closed circuit but to do that I need a racing truck. I do have a old HPI Blitz (with Velineon 3S!) but I have never really raced it. I love it and want to keep it as my trusted basher as it is. What I want is to build a fresh buggy out from the kit to learn how it really works. Being beginner as I am I was recommended to try two-wheel driven buggy first. Why 2WD? First of all, I am simple man and I want to keep it simple and in budget. Rear wheel driven buggies are much more simpler as there is no need to think about three differentials with three different oils inside or powertrain issues like twisted shafts or snapped belts. Of course 4WD is better in many ways but sometimes it is more valuable to - yes, keep it simple!

So what's hot today and which one to pick? Lets take a look what is available in 2WD Buggy market in the year 2021!

Xray XB2'21

Honestly speaking, I do not know yet much about competition level RC but these kits I must say I do adore. Dedication and spirit that people at Team Xray in Slovakia are taking to make their best trucks even better is something what everyone should learn of. Year after year they find something what can be done better. I do not even think that these are trucks, they are more like precision engineered instruments for racing that have wheels under! I would build one of these just for the fun of the building an Xray! Like this XB2'21 version here, their trucks are very customable beyond the limits to suit every surface and track conditions out there. With Xray I would not be alone with my truck thanks to their brilliant support, wide availability of tuning books, set-up tools from Hudy etc. No wonder that often Team Drivers of Xray can be seen climbing to the podium race after race! Hats off also to the facts that their kits are made in Europe and that they keep the spares available for their older kits also. This is important to keep in mind if you are one of those who prefer second hand or "slightly" used trucks.

Team Associated B6.2

Already in their sixth evolution, AEs 2WD buggies combine the heritage and decades long experience to the modern day engineering. If I've understood right, AEs are pretty strong built truck with plenty of durable aluminum but as stock are not as highly tunable than the previous contender. This could actually be better for beginner like me though I was also told that their kits may be a bit hassle to build. Now before all the AE Fans grab their pitchforks and hunt me down I must add that if you stay on the top of the market for over 30 years you must be doing something right! Team Associated buggies are something that fits from Average Joe to professional racers and everyone in between. Personally I've been keeping eye on Team Associated trucks for sometime now but have not built or owned any of their trucks - yet!

Yokomo YZ-2

Most of you folks probably think of drifting when hearing the name Yokomo but they have some other goodies in their catalogue too. They have been around already from the early 70's and released their first buggy Dog Fighter back in 1983. Yokomo is very popular on the Asian market and with their history it can be considered as one of the Monoliths in the RC Hall of Fame. Often found from the top in the competition result tables the YZ-2 could be mine (or yours!) ticket to take over the turf! After their IFMAR World Champion 2WD win they have been beefing up their YZ-2 platform to perform even better. New shorter chassis gives better grip and it comes with two different gear box covers to play with! Easy-to-access battery holder catches my attention too. This seems like a strong option for a beginner looking to get in to 2WD's. Should I build this one? What would you build? Please reply and share your vision!

Looks so temptingly good and as we already know that E-Revo 2 really moves - this truck definitely is The True Beast Unleashed. Body here is Proline Brute and with its low profile it seems to fit this type of bashers pretty fine! Thank you Jukka for sending your truck!
